Dr Bates and Vision Improvement - The Natural Way

how to improve eyesight

Dr Bates championed vision improvement and devised many different techniques which he claimed improved a patient’s eyesight. He claimed that strain on the eyes to see was infinite, and he devised a method of relieving the strain to improve vision.

He particularly explained that a set approach would not work for everyone, and so Dr. Bates became a well known alternative therapist. This is still widely practiced today.

He used techniques designed to dissociate strain and then achieve central seeing; which is the central point of vision omitting staring. He claimed that all errors of refraction and disturbances of function disappear when the eyes see by central fixation; and if there were any other associated conditions they too would be relieved. He also stated that exposing the eyes to sunlight would improve vision.

Medical associates have criticized Dr. Bates methodology and have stated what negative consequences could occur if patients followed the protocol; especially if their eyes are over exposed to sunlight. They also stated that it would be negligent to not wear corrective lenses while driving and would worsen or even cause serious implications to the eyes.

One of his techniques to vision improvement was closing the eyes which would help relax them; the patient would cover their eyes with their palms applying no pressure at all to the eyeballs. The theory behind this method was to eliminate light creating total relaxation of the eyes. Although some patients stated that they have illusions of light and colour; Bates claimed these would totally disappear when the eyes were relaxed.

The Bates Association for Vision Education are qualified professionals that teach the Bates method for vision improvement. The teachers mostly work with children, but offer individual lessons to adults.

Workshops and lectures centered around perfect vision. Training is offered on an ongoing basis. Pupils are taught how to improve their eyesight without having corrective surgery; as well as teaching how to increase the chances of eliminating degenerative eye disease. Black lettering is used as well as the swing method to help correct vision.

It is debatable as to whether these eye therapy methods really work; or maybe it is mind over matter and those that claim that there is improvement could be purely from "autosuggestion". Dr. Bates and vision improvement has no solid evidence of proof that this therapy actually works. However, many individuals claim that it does.

vision exercise

We are sure you know just how important it is to keep your body fit. We do this by jogging, swimming, biking and going to the gym. However, do you know how important it is to exercise your eyes for better vision as well? What? Did you just say that you never heard of eye exercises before? Honestly, there are simple eye exercises you can do that might help out. What do eye exercises do? Well, they may help to minimize eyestrain, improve eyesight and help to keep your eyes healthy. If you like the idea of keeping your eyes healthy, then continue reading the rest of this article to learn some simple exercises.

First of all, find a comfortable seat to engage in vision therapy. Rub your hands together until you have generated some warmth. Close your eyes and cover them with your palms. You should not put any pressure on your eyes. Make sure no light is entering the eyes. Imagine a deep area of blackness and concentrate on that blackness. Evenly and slowly start to take deep breaths as you are thinking of something happy. Begin to visualize a distant scene. When your eyes do not see anything but blackness, move your hands away from your eyes and repeat this.

For anywhere from three to five seconds, you should close your eyes tightly, then open them for another three to five seconds. Do this for about seven to eight times.

As you are sitting in a comfortable chair, roll your eyes clockwise, then roll them counter-clockwise. Do this five times and blink in between those times.

Sit in front of a window, put a mark on the window. This could be a small sticker that is either red or black. Look through that mark and then focus on something that is far around for about fifteen seconds. The,focus on that mark again. As you see, there are many simple eye exercises that you can do.

The History of Natural Vision Improvement

eye exercise

Maintaining good vision is very important, as much as 80% of the information you obtain from the world around you is received through your eyesight! The history of natural eye correction dates back to Dr. William Bated who was born in 1860 and died in 1931. He was a distinguished eye surgeon who was not happy with the fact that glasses were used as a standard for curing visual impairment.

Over the millennia our eyes have changed in keeping with the way we live our lives. Hunter, gatherers of the past used their eyes for both long distance and close examination at all times, for example looking into the distance in search of food or enemies, and in the next breath closely examining a berry filled bush. This kept the eye muscles agile which in turn allows for keen vision.

Times changed, particularly with the industrial revolution, and today people spend many hours immobile with their eyes fixed on a specific task. The eye muscles no longer receive the type of exercise they require to keep agile and many unnecessary eye problems occur.

Dr. Bates spent many years researching vision, he concluded that strain in the eyes was caused by mental strain or stress and poor lifestyle. This led to ocular dysfunction such as double vision, blurriness, sensitivity to light and other problems. He also spent time studying people with perfect sight and noted that the function of the eyes was different.

The outcome of his studies led him to treat his patients by teaching them to relax and also vision training. The outcome of this was that the visual brain and eyes were often restored to maximum potential.

His techniques have spread and are still used world-wide, many people have improved and regularly perfected their vision by means of his methods. He wrote a book for this purpose called "Better Eyesight without Glasses" which is published by Grafton Press.

Maybe natural vision improvement can help to improve the health of the eye. It is a holistic approach which includes simple exercises and habits which are key to maintaining and improving good eyesight. The majority of your vision occurs in the brain, these exercises help the brain to make more meaning of the visual world.

The Alternative Theory of Natural Vision Improvement

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

vision training

Do you want to flaunt your eyes and see the world around you directly by getting rid of your glasses? There is good news for people. The alternative theory of natural vision improvement can be a solution. This concept was pioneered by Dr William Horatio Bates an ophthalmologist from America a century ago. The method has been named after the inventor as The Bates method which is more like an educational solution having to do with eye care, relaxation and exercises of the eye. This has nothing to do with medicines.

The users of this method have been benefited in reducing their lens magnitude and even in some cases has become spectacle free. But the Bates method is not supported by medical evidence.

But it has been widely popular and effective. It is lifestyle method which improves eyesight without any optical devices. It is based on some exercises and has a workout plan which help to improve the vision naturally.

Spending some minutes every day may yield results. Some ways of the natural vision improvement are:

Practicing speed reading habits and good vision habits while doing work in a close area will improve the vision at close-up.

The method concentrates in relaxing the muscles in the eye area and the shape of the eyeball. The natural technique can claims to relieve a number of problems like myopia, presbyopia, astigmatism, glaucoma, cataract, amblyopia, double vision, blurry vision, eyestrain, eye pain.

The exercise works well if maintained with a secret which is the sequence. There are number of exercises which have to be done according to the schedule in the right order for the required amount of time. This natural vision improvement program not only concentrates on the eyes but also on psychological factors.

The alternative theory of natural vision improvement is a holistic approach which controls both the mind and the body and improves vision. to explore the world of natural vision improvement.

Dr Bates and Vision Improvement

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Dr. Bates really is a mastermind and his vision improvement techniques are not something that have just surfaced. In fact, Dr. Bates was an eye-care physician from the year 1860 to 1931. He believed that glasses were never necessary and harmful. He stated that all eyesight problems were due to the strain of eyes. As he was an M. D., he published a book along with a magazine, which detailed the approach he takes at helping individuals improve their vision. As we continue forward with this article, we would like to take a closer look at Dr. Bates and vision improvement.

Dr. Bates claimed that you should be able to improve your eyesight with the techniques he had in mind. These techniques were centered around movement and visualization. He would place a lot of attention on imaging letters and marks that were black. He also stated that exposing the eyes to sun would alleviate the strain.

Aldous Huxley, who was a British writer claimed that he used bates meethod and his sight has greatly improved. Many question if his vision was truly improved or not. Despite many reports of successful results, the ‘Bates" techniques have not been proved to improve eyesight.

Bates stated that corrective lenses, which he referred to as "eye crutches" would not cure vision and was only an impediment. He recommended that anyone using glasses should discard them and begin applying his method. He discussed a number of treatments in writing that he claimed would help individuals with their sight.

For one of his techniques, he suggested the patient closing their eyes for a couple of minutes in order to bring about relaxation. He stated that you could increase that relaxation by "palming, " which means covering your eyes with the palms of your hands. Dr. Bates and vision improvement will be considered for many years to come.

Many People Have Gum Disease, are You At Risk?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Gum disease is an infection in your mouth, causing the gums and bones to become unhealthy. With this disease if it continues to go unchecked, you might lose your teeth, and you could also notice your health declining.

There are some people who are more apt to experience periodontal disease. Be it due to diabetes, or Down syndrome. Both of those medical conditions can affect a person’s mouth and cause them to have gingival disease easier than others.

Periodontal disease may even be hereditary in some cases. Children of parents who’ve always experienced problems will want to keep a closer track on their teeth.

People who smoke and use chewing tobacco are more apt to experience gum disease too. See they already have the stains from smoking. All that is a breeding ground for those bacteria that live in your mouth. They grow and feed off of and underneath all of the stains and the lack of brushing that many smokers may experience.

Eating a lot of sugar will put you into the category of a person who may have periodontal disease. That’s why it’s important as a kid to begin a good regimen of taking care of your teeth. When you get home and eat a snack after school, brush your teeth as soon as you’re done eating.

Also drinks that kids and adults drink have so much sugar in them too. After you’re done drinking you need to brush your teeth. It may seem that you will be brushing a lot if you really want to avoid gum disease. But in your mouth hundreds of bacteria can be sitting around, just waiting for you to mess up. Growing and making your gums bad. However, you should always brush very gently, never harshly. Breaking up the plaque does not take much, but it does require consistency to keep it from creating a problem.

Disclaimer: If you have or think you might have gum disease or any other health problem, please visit your doctor or periodontist for advice, diagnosis and treatment. HIV/AIDS Funding Cuts, California

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Despite the recession, the state  reply to HIV - as well as the commitment of sufficient resources to attain comprehensive access to HIV prevention and treatment, fully fund AIDS research and strengthen underlying health systems - cannot be put in a holding pattern while waiting for the economy to spark.  Given the economic woes across the US, budget cuts is not surprising. However, this fact doesn’t lessen the pain of the $85 million budget slash aimed at AIDS programs across California. Hardest hit in the cuts are HIV education and prevention programs, testing and counseling services, home services and early intervention services. The Governor has recognized the difficult decision to cut AIDS programs. The governor’s budget proposal would cut $12 million from the AIDS drug assistance program and eliminate $68 million that funds counseling, testing, prevention and education, epidemiology and housing programs.   The proposed cuts are unusual and will essentially eliminate the Office of AIDS in California. In addition to eliminating state funding, agencies will also not be able to receive federal funding that requires state matching.

California’s most defenseless population has its services on the chopping block again in the latest round of proposed state budget cuts. impoverished families relying on welfare and Medi-Cal, children of low-income families, and individuals suffering from HIV or AIDS were all part of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s May budget revise reductions. The proposal also includes to cut all general fund contributions to up to 220 state parks, which could include the La Purisima Mission and parks along the Gaviota Coast. The governor’s proposed elimination of the CalWorks program is expected to affect 3,500 families in Sta. Barbra County as reported by Kathy Gallagher, the director of the County Social Services Department. The CalWORKs program provides temporary financial help and employment focused services to families with minor children who have income and property below State maximum limits for their family size. Most able-bodied aided parents are also required to participate in the CalWORKs GAIN employment services program. Abiding to the proposed budget cuts would make California the only state and the first world country of civilized nations in the world to not have a catch program for the poor families.  Abating the welfare program, which gives cash aid and services to eligible needy California families, would placing the load directly on the county, making such idea totally wild.

The  proposed reduction of  the state’s general fund contribution to AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) and other AIDS services, including counseling, testing and home-based care, would also result to widespread HIV infections and deaths. Each year in California, an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 people become infected. About one in five are unaware that they are infected. California has one of the highest infection rates in the U.S. with more than 100,000 people living with HIV/AIDS, according to the California Department of Public Health Office of AIDS.   The state´s ability to identify people living with AIDS/HIV is now badly maimed—creating an massive barrier to the prevention of new infections and linking those who need it to treatment. Not only will the Governor´s callous funding cuts shatter those living with HIV/AIDS who rely on the services the state provides to stay alive and healthy, but today’s cuts also pose a serious threat to our shared responsibility to combat the spread of HIV in California.

Accessory For Murder

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

The scarf, that fashion accessory equally beloved by the stylish and the footie fan, has a darker history as an accessory to murder.  Throughout the ages, serial killers and even national legislatures have used the scarf as the preferred means of despatching their victims through strangulation. The scarf began as a man’s fashion item for at least three centuries and developed as a sign of community,an expression of machismo and as a murder weapon.

The most organised and notorious use of what could be called designer scarves as instruments of murder was made by the Thuggees in India.A cult engaged in the massacre and robbery of travellers, 4,500 were tried by the British between 1826 and 1848.  The thugs (from where we get the name in English) talked their way onto caravans only to massacre the entire company.Their preferred technique was to garrotte victims using their Rumal or “Yellow Scarf”.  In some cases, the scarf was wound round a single Rupee coin to more effectively crush the windpipe. Most Indian men ion that region would have a head-scarf, worn either as a turban or draped to protect the back of the neck. Other types of scarves were worn as cummerbunds instead of a belt, so although they appeared unarmed, the Thugees were “tooled up” to the hilt.

More recently, Saeed Hanai, the   so called Spider Killer in Iran used women’s scarves to despatch his victims. Targeting prostitutes in response to a supposed slur on his wife’s character, he used the women’s own scarves to strangle  every one of his 21 victims , throwing the bodies on the roadside or more often in open sewers, wrapped in long black chadors as a makeshift body bag bundled like a spider would it’s next meal on the web.Murdered 16 year old Leanne Tiernan disappeared after a shopping trip to Leeds on 26 November 2000. Her corpse was found in woods several miles away, nine months later.  Her killer, a 46 year old parcel delivery man called John Taylor, was given two life sentences after he admitted kidnap, sexual molestation and strangling Leanne with a scarf.

Nelson Earle Leonard, AKA the Dark Strangler, carried out his reign of terror across the USA in the 1920’s.  Born in Philadelphia on May 12, 1897, Nelson was orphaned at nine months of age and raised by an aunt whose religious zeal bordered on fanaticism. He raped and strangled mainly elderly women who had taken him in as a lodger, beguiled by his apparent charm and his god fearing bearing, he used several  fashion accessories as a ligature but showing a preference for ladies scarves.

County Criminal Records – Public Court Records Search on a County Level

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

There are a whole lot of discussions going on about criminal background checks. While most online services are no longer limited by the boundaries of a particular state, it is useful to go back to counties as basic territorial units to get precise information and to save energy and time. It is good to note that state-hosted internet services are not the only ones in circulation. Counties also provide similar offers. The following are some valuable tips you need to know about County Criminal Records.

There are more than three thousand counties in the United States (3,077 to be precise); Delaware having only three and Texas topping the charts with 254. Each county is in its own, a small self-governing unit. In each of these localities, all criminal records are effectively kept and maintained. In conducting criminal background checks, a county criminal records database can be of great help.

There are various online sites that provide free results for the respective localities. For instance, Denton County, a county located in Texas, hosts a wide range of search options such as sex offenders, top ten most wanted criminals and juvenile probations on their website. This list is complete with details of the offense committed, suspects/ offenders’ name, address, and picture. This county’s site also contains other useful information such as marriage licenses and other Public Records.

Browsing through these public court records does have an advantage. If you are a resident of a specific county and would want to know about certain people or recent crimes that have been committed, then browsing through an online County Criminal Records database narrows your search results. Furthermore, some circumstances depend on the residency of an individual or a locality where the crime was committed. Nevertheless, if you are interested in another county in your state or in a different one, the best option to vie for is to go through that county’s website. Indeed, research and information gathering about the person you are dealing with can now be done in the comfort of your home or office.

Making services offered by counties available to the general public can spare you a lot of time and can prevent criminal activity in your community.

Although crimes cannot be completely prevented, by searching and investigating through County Criminal Records, your worries regarding safety will surely lessen. County Court Records have never been so accessible, until now.

Hoodies for All is the Answer

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

The hoodie is actually a really practical garment. A sweathshirt with an attached hood to cover the head, often, but not always, with a zipper. They’ve been around since the 1980s, generally worn by the younger generation.

In the United States the hoodie is associate with hip hop culture. In Australia they are more associated with surfers. But in the United Kingdom the term Hoodies is used to describe a problem group of young people, generally working class boys, who are often considered threatening for wearing them.

Many UK shopping centers have taken the decision to ban the wearing of hoodies. This is because of the way that hoodies have been associated with crime and the wearers trying to hide their identities. But a garment doesn’t make someone a criminal.

The media really loves this type of labeling. Hardly a day goes by without hearing reports of hoodie wearing youths or hoodie yobs involved in some sort of alleged criminal behavior. In fact there are numerous reports of police being called simply because a group of hoodie wearing young people have gathered at a bus stop.

Figures show that more than 50% of stories in the press about teenage boys involve crime. In these reports the most common word used to describe the boys is ‘yobs’ followed by ‘thugs’ and often simply the term ‘hoodie’. The only reports in which teenage boys receive sympathetic coverage is if they have died.

Boys in the UK are being damaged by the media stereotyping of those who wear hoodies, but the media loves to label. They are now fearful of one another and many think that adults were frightened of them.

Is this a new phenomenon? Probably not. In the 1950s there were the teddy boys. The 1960s brought the mods and rockers. In the 1970s there were the skinheads. Each group had their own signature form of dress.

So is there a simple answer to stop this growing trend to demonise our young people because of a garment of clothing? Perhaps we need less surveillance, but many wouldn’t agree. The UK is fast becoming a surveillance state with more cameras per head of population than any other European country.

But the hooded sweatshirt is not itself evil. In fact they are practical and stylish. Headworx Hoodies, for example, come in a variety of styles and materials, ideal for anybody. This might be anohter way to address the issue. Encourage more older people to start wearing them, perhaps with some Rip Curl Tshirts and Vans Shoes trainers. Cool.
